Do S.T. Dupont Cigar Cases Fit Large Ring-Gauge Cigars? A Size Guide

Many do—but a capacity label cannot tell you whether a thick cigar fits. Diameter, length, shape, and clearance all matter.

Ring Gauge to Millimeters

Cigar ring gauge measures diameter in sixty-fourths of an inch. Multiply the ring gauge by 25.4 and divide by 64 to estimate millimeters. The chart below shows why a difference of only two ring sizes matters near a case’s limit.

Ring GaugeApprox. DiameterReading for a 24–24.5 mm Case
5220.6 mmComfortably below the stated diameter limit
5421.4 mmBelow the stated limit
5622.2 mmBelow the stated limit

What Official Specifications Show

Official double-case Ref. 183011 lists a 2.4 cm maximum diameter and 23 cm maximum length. Another current double, Ref. 183256, lists 24.5 mm. Converted to ring gauge, those diameters sit between approximately 60 and just under 62.

These figures do not create a universal rule for every S.T. Dupont cigar case. Collections, internal profiles, materials, and production references differ. Treat an advertised maximum as a hard ceiling, not an ideal everyday fit.

Why a Nominally Correct Cigar May Still Bind

Ring gauge describes a round diameter, but box-pressed cigars have corners and unequal dimensions. Measure the widest point with a caliper. A cigar stored too wet may also swell slightly, while a delicate or toothy wrapper can drag against a close-fitting interior. If insertion requires pressure, stop—the wrapper and cap are more valuable than proving the size chart right.

Capacity is separate from diameter: A three-cigar case holds more cigars, but it does not automatically accept a larger ring gauge than a one- or two-cigar case. Always check the internal diameter for the exact reference.

Length Still Matters

Many leather-and-metal cases telescope to suit different cigar lengths. Current KingZendo examples below list adjustable ranges of 6–8 inches, with one triple beginning at 6.5 inches. That does not confirm diameter. Check both measurements, especially for long Churchills, Double Coronas, and thick specialty vitolas.

Measure Before You Buy

  • Measure the cigar’s widest point, not only its band.
  • Convert ring gauge to millimeters when needed.
  • Confirm usable length for the exact reference.
  • Leave clearance for wrapper texture and shape.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the largest ring gauge an S.T. Dupont cigar case fits?

Some references list maximum diameters around 24–24.5 mm, approximately ring 60–62. The exact limit depends on the model.

Will a ring-60 cigar fit an S.T. Dupont case?

A ring-60 cigar is about 23.8 mm wide and may fit a case rated for 24–24.5 mm, subject to shape and condition.

Will a ring-62 cigar fit an S.T. Dupont case?

Ring 62 is approximately 24.6 mm, making it borderline or too large for a 24.5 mm maximum. Do not force it.

Do three-cigar cases fit thicker cigars than two-cigar cases?

Not automatically. Capacity describes quantity, while each reference’s internal diameter determines the maximum ring gauge it can accept.

Do box-pressed cigars fit differently?

Yes. Their corners and unequal dimensions may bind even when the nominal ring gauge appears suitable. Measure the widest point.

How should you measure a cigar for a case?

Use a caliper at the cigar’s widest point and measure its full length. Compare both figures with the exact case specification.
